Welcome to second grade! Our first week of school has just finished! All the kids are on their way home and I feel like I could crawl into bed! We have been doing many exciting things this week and learning all about what to expect in second grade. Here at Woodland we believe it is very important to go slow these first 6 weeks of school in order to remain on task the rest of the year. The first 6 weeks we do not start curriculum in most areas, we instead spend the time establishing routines and practicing what those routines will look like. When we take the time to do this the students are able to stay on task and get work done while I am working with groups.
Next week will be vowel week there is a yellow flyer going home that explains what we do when we review our vowels. Please take a look at that over the weekend.
I wanted to remind everyone that we have snack at 11:00 every day. Some students are not coming with snack and then they complain of being hungry. I do not provide snack for the students so please consider sending something with them everyday. It would also be good to let them know what is their lunch and what is their snack. Our room tends to be cold so it is handy to either send a sweatshirt everyday or just to keep one in their locker.
Once everything starts to settle down I will be giving parents the option to come join us for morning meeting. This will be an option on Monday mornings from 9:45-10:10 during our morning meeting time. I do not have the room for everyone's parents to join us so I will assign people to different days so that you all will have the opportunity to join us if that is something you are interested in! If that sounds exciting to you please send me an email of different Monday dates that work for you, starting in October.
We are off to a fantastic start in room 28! Have a great weekend!
